Help with NAS build

Hey guys,

I'm going to build a NAS for a friend, and would like some input from you.

Is using an AMD Fusion overkill? Should I look into Atom, instead?

Thanks in advance.

I use Atom d525 on a headless Debian server with software raid 4 (4X2TB) and I share the consensus view that Atom is more than adequate in this specific role. Start by identifying what operating system and software you want to run then ask folks who run that software what works for them.

Thanks. I haven't decide on the OS, but I'm leaning towards using FreeNAS.

I see you use software raid. Do you know if any of the low end solutions available in market (either atom or zacate) have motherboards with hardware raid available?

Newegg has some atom boards that support hardware raid. Price depends on which raid options you want or need.
