Help with my xbox one controller power issue?

My thumbsticks originally went bad so I replaced them myself. Ever since, my controller doesn't power on with the button, only with a USB cable after the second try usually. Just seeing if anyone may have any idea what may be causing this. Also, when I try to update it while plugged in as the primary or secondary controller it doesnt recognize that it is plugged in. I appreciate any help or suggestions someone might have.
 
You either didn't plug something back in, or broke something, or didn't take proper precautions and gave the board some ESD love.

Whatever the case, you will have to take the controller apart again.

I repair computers for a living, I took the necessary steps to avoid ESD damage with a grounded wrist strap. I think it may be a security feature Microsoft uses to prevent repair? Any idea what it may be, could it be that the xbox button is damaged? And if so, why does it power on with USB but doesn't recognize it as a USB device? Thanks for your help!
 
Other than taking apart and reassembling... not sure what else we could suggest. Sounds like one of those things you'd have to look at in person.
 
if it powers it on as USB but doesn't recognize it as USB, that could mean something is up with the data wire in the USB.

i've modded controllers many times (although only once on the X1) to hook them up to joysticks and i've never had any issues like this that couldn't be explained by an error in the job i did.

in fact now that you're mentioning it, i had this exact issue when modding my X1 TE2 to work on PS4. all of the buttons worked EXCEPT the home button. the problem ended up being that I had bridged 2 solder points on the PS4 board (which happened to be the home button + another one) that ended up being the root cause of this.

look at that tiny solder "string" connecting points 3 and 4 right there under the IDE looking plug. that ended up being the problem.

Haha glad I am not alone on this one! About to go see if I can see any visible shorts, thanks a lot for the info sir!

No I originally didn't even remove it that far but since I have had this issue I have the entire controller disassembled, verified that the membrane was still in place, and still failed to find a short, going to take it into work today and see if I see anything under the microscope.

I forgot 1 detail rules that out, that I can use the power button to turn the console or controller off, just turning on is the problem. =( back to square 1 lol
 
Even brand-new, I had controllers that failed to trurn the console on wirelessly. Did you happen to verify with a secondary controller?
