I'm planning on building this computer very soon. Would you guys recommend me building it now, or waiting for those new cards to come out to get a price drop? (i heard theres an ATI one coming out in like one month). Please remember i'm kinda on a budget. and how hard is it to build your first computer, and how long should it take? also, is there anything that doesn't work together in this computer? thanks!

The computer i'm going to build:

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice Core)
MOBO - Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
VIDEO - BFG 6600GT 128MB OC
RAM - Corsair PC3200 DDR400 512MB x 2
HD - Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB (16MB Buffer)
Case - Antec Sonata w/ 380W PSU
Monitor - Samsung 710N 17" LCD
DVD - NEC 16x DVD-RW
KB/M - Logitech LX 700
Speakers - Logitech X-530 5.1 Speakers
Router - D-Link DI624

it's going to cost me about 1700 + tax (CANADIAN).

Are you overclocking? I would suggest getting a cheaper board such as the Chaintech VNF4 Ultra or Epox NF4 Ultra. Getting an SLI mobo with the plan to add another card later is just silly IMO. Whent hte time comes when games will not run optimally you could just sell your 6600Gt and buy a newer single card. So get rid of the SLI mobo. If you are overclocking get the DFI; if not get a cheap Chaintech VNf4 Ultra or Epox. MSI has a good cheap board too.

If you do get the DFi though I wouldn't get Corsair RAM as it is known to sometimes encounter problems witht eh DFI NF4 board.

Also, if you are planning to overclock, I would suggest that you get a better PSU instead of the one that comes in the case. Look for one with a lot of amps on the 12v rail....at least 24.

Let me tell you, if you are concerned about price drops, oh well. That's how the computer market is. You wait till it drops down in price but the prices falls further after you do the purchase. Prices are pretty volatile on video cards especially. Obviously mobos are everchanging and so is pricing. Check out the pricing websites and go from there. For me, I found a vendor that had decent prices for the major parts I needed and order all of it from that specific vendor. Sure I could have gotten a DVD burner cheaper from one vendor and a hard drive cheaper at another, but it was easier to track coming from one vendor and overall shipping (cost) and service was great. Good luck and have fun.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

x800 xl for videocard is the best bang for the buck right now..
and dont get sli board w/ 380w power supply.. i doubt that u will run it in SLI..
so like drew recommanded go for Chaintech VNF4 Ultra or Epox NF4 Ultra..
if u r overclocking... DFI is the way to go..
