Help with my internet please!

Alright. So we have our InsightBB modem and router downstairs and the computer I use is upstairs. I use this computer mainly for gaming (World of Warcraft and other Warcraft titles). I'm using a Linksys Wireless-G adapter to get the signal from our router, which is a NetGear. I had a guy at the local computer shop set up the home network for us seeing as I am not too good at these things. Unfortunately they are closed for a few days and I was anxious to get my internet working by the weekend. What it will do is while I'm playing a game, it will randomly disconnect and then reconnect every 8-10 minutes. I know the modem is not the problem because it takes a little bit for our modem to reconnect and this is disconnect/reconnect quickly. I think it is the fact that I'm using a Linksys adapter on a NetGear router but I could be wrong, which is why I leave this question up to you all: What are possible causes for this problem and what are possible solutions?

I should also say that my Norton Internet Security needs to be renewed and I will be renewing it later tonight. I also have HijackThis if anyone can read those logs if something there is the problem. Thank you any help you can give me!

It is the Netgear router and Linksys adapter.

Netgear routers hate Linksys adapters. I've seen this many times. You're going to need to get

1) A new router

2) A new wireless NIC.

So to solve my problem I need a new router? If possible I'd like to be able to just get some type of external or internal hardware to get the signal from my router (I assume that is what an NIC is).
