Help with my compaq 5240

According to crucial.com my compaq old compaq 5240 has 3 ram slots and supports 384 total mb of momory. So a little basic math tells me that each slot can only support 128mb of memory. Is this true? Because someone I know just offered me a really good price on a 256mg stick of memory.

It will take the 256 stick it just won't accept higher than 384 MB total RAM on that board.
 
If it will take the 256 mb stick then why is the biggest stick that crucial offers on their site is only128 mb? I'm not doubting you, I am just curious.
