I have a 8290 Voice stream Cell phone. I recently sold it to a friend of mine, and it broke while under his use. It wasn't from abuse or anything like that. Recently it's been saying "insert SIM card" for no apparent reason. I recently just RMA?d the phone through Voice stream. It?s only about two months old now, and I?m not sure what to do. It has a warranty on the phone stating that if anything should go wrong that you can return it. But I sold the phone and there?s nothing wrong with selling your cellular phone right? They?ll ask for the imei number or something like that and will it show up saying that it?s still under my name? I?m not sure what to do, he wants to RMA it so he can get a new phone. Anyone with that can help me out please post, thank you very much Anandtech Forums!

If he has service for the phone under his name, then the phone will also be under his name.

I'm not sure about VoiceStream, but Sprint PCS warranties are transferable. It would be bad PR for any cellular company not to offer transferable warranties.

why don't you or he rma to nokia directly?
manufacturer rma is easy and fast.

you just call and tell them your name, address, phone model and imei,
get a rma#, send it (ericsson even gives me their fedex account # to ship on their expense), get a new refurb. in few days.
