Help With My Build

My computer has become quite out of date, and I've decided it's time to build a new one. It will be used for gaming and other conventional media purposes. I'll be purchasing the parts through newegg, and here's what i've come up with:

AMD Athlon 3500+ $267

Gigabyte GA-K8n Ultra-9 Motherboard $140

eVGA Geforce 6800GT PCI-E $379

Antec Aluminum ATX mid Tower Case $130

I don't plan on overclocking. I am on a budget, of around $1500. Any recommendations, or comments are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Also, what's a good 17" CRT monitor?

I'd suggest you go with the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum.

You could get a 200GB IDE HD for $97.00

I don't like tha case. It's ugly (personal choice)
$267 for a CPU is a lot of money.
The real world difference between a $267 CPU and a $150 CPU is very very tiny.

I want a Serial ATA HD. I don't want an extremely flashy case, just something that is good quality, has enough room, and good cooling... This case was one of the only ones that I actually liked the look of. The cpu is the one thing that I am probably set on.. at the 3500+ spot is where the price seems to jump out of my budget, so I figured i'd get the best I could.

Dont get the 3500 its not really that much better then a 3200 but costs 70 bucks more

also maybe get this power supply it will be good enough to run what ever you want you
really dont need a antec true power

also i linked a nice cheaper case not too flashy 🙂

and lastly if your not going to OC just get a chaintech mobo cheap too 😛

case=good,mobo=bad, go for an msi, you can't go wrong with them,and get a venice or san diego 3500 they are on the new 90m soi process and are good for ocing

What makes the MSI board better than the Gigabyte? And what does "90m soi process" for a processor mean?

I also suggest teh MSI Neo4. The Chaintech VNF$ Ultra is a good budget board if you are looking to save money.
You should definitely go with the Venice/SD core CPU. They support SSE3 instructions, and are supposed to OC better than the Winchesters, and much better than the 130nm Newcastles.
If you don't understand what SSE3 instructions means, just know that it is better. 🙂

I don't have any plans atm to overclock... any reasoning to why the MSI board is better than the Gigabyte board?
