My computer is less than a year old and recently has been having hiccups where Win2k will just reboot for no apparent reason. At first it happened after maybe a couple hours, but now it will happen in less than 4 minutes. I booted in safe mode and saw an unfamiliar blue screen that said there was some error in a boot device..blah blah...if this is the first time you have seen this message please check all connections, check for viruses or run chkdsk/f. In the end, I assumed the problem was coming from Nortonantivirus b/c I tried to uninstall startup progs in safe mode. At the uninstall, I got a registry error and the uninstall failed. My cousin who helped me build the machine, said it might be a registry problem. So I got a formatted hd form him and tried to put that in as the new boot drive. Now here comes more problems. I have only this new drive in my computer with burner and dvd drive plugged up and no floppy b/c that died over a week ago. On the inital boot up, I expected to get to the install screen for Win2k, except it freezes just after is tries to "Verify Data Pool." I have no clue what this is, but looking around other tech sites, there are many common boot problems that have this freeze. Can anyone shed some light on why my computer freeze at this moment? does the problem lie in the mobo, or is there something in the bios that is causing it? I have the bios set to defaults and disabled the floppy, but that doesn't get me much further. HELP!!!!!
