Hi. The main OS that i use is XP Pro which is on my SATA drive. I have a IDE drive that I have installed XP x64 onto, and am having trouble editing my boot.ini so that I can boot the x64 OS.

This is the current boot.ini that I am trying to use to load the x64 version of windows, but when I select the x64 OS at startup, it just comes up saying that the ntoskrnl.exe is missing and that I need to reinstall that file, but if I change my boot order in BIOS so that my IDE HDD is first, I can boot the x64 version without troubles

[boot loader]
timeout=2
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 bit" /fastdetect

Any help would be appreciated. By the way, this extra line that I added into the boot.ini was just guesswork, im not actually certain if its right, but when I go into msconfig, and get it to check that all the boot paths are correct, it says that they all seem to be fine

Thanks

It might be that the boot loader is 32-bit and the kernel for XP x64 is 64-bit? Then again, I have no idea either.

The very BEST way to get an arc path right is to boot to recovery console and run:

"map arc"

Give it a try, it'll change your life :D
