Help with Mushkin RAM

Since Crucial has gotten some sense back and prices on DDR are back over 60 for a 256 stick I am starting to look around. I went to the Mushkin site and they have 3 different types. Could anyone clue me in on the differences. One is BASIC, one says nothing special, and one says High Performance. a 512 BASIC stick goes for 112 and seems too good to pass up. Can anyone offer some insight? (oh building an amd 1600xp on epox 8hka+ with gainward gf2 ti500 golden). If you can suggest something else then hit me. Oh also, i saw and FS/FT post about 2700 DDR... can I use that and a 2100 stick at the same time?

Basic and Special are cheaper, lower cas Ram, the high Perf is rated cas 222, i would recommend the High perf, its worth the extra money (Just got a stick of 512mb PC2100 High perf, its nice 😀 ) yes i would suppose you could use pc2100 and pc 2700 together but you are limited to the speed of the slower ram (Pc2100) even if your motherboard does support Pc2700 (none do yet) hope all this info helps 🙂

Most of the high performance stuff is nice memory, been running if for a while, and usually their "promo" deals are pretty sweet. But the basic memory at mushkin i've heard mixed feelings about.

I tend to think about it like this, Mushkin is nice Oc'ing memory and high quality when you buy there higher end stuff, there customer support, at least to me, has been excellent. But The "basic" mushkin is nothing to write home about. If crucial is near that price range(basic), and Massive oc'ing isn't an issue, then i'd say go with Crucial.

So the only difference between these two is that the High Perf has the heat spreader?

512mb High Perf PC2100 Mushkin CL2 $ 164

512mb PC2100 DDR SDRAM SPECIAL $ 149

So go with crucial if I don't want the higher quality? Mushkin Basic and Crucial are both 2.5-3-3 and the High performance stuff is 2-3-3... is that the difference? I guess I am just wondering if 1x512 BASIC from mushkin at 112 is a better deal than 2x256 from crucial at 122. Or should I quit being a wuss and just get the SPecial or High Perf from Mushkin for another 30-40 bucks?

they.(mushkin) are getting extra money for the heat spreader............same memory ...one has a spreader...like someone else said ..if you can get cruical at the same price or lower...go for cruical
you can mix and match memory mods....2100...2700..ect. but when o/cing...the lower rated memory will hold you back...

ps....there are boards that support 2700 mem.....iwill....asus....many more....but is there any "true" 2700 memory out??? .not o/ced 2100 or 2400........

I have 1 Mushkin 512MB Special and 4 Crucial 256MB DDR266 modules. All of them run fine at SPD settings and can go up to 151 MHz memory bus at CL2.5, where the MB limits the OC. At 2-2-2 and agressive timing, the Mushkin is much more stable when OCed. It goes up to 149MHz while the Crucial's were limited to 145MHz in pair.
