Help with multiple Video cards

Hi all,
I have been looking for information on how to set up 2 separate Video Cards.
Specifically, I am using a GTX 970 in the main Slot and an R9 290X in the other. When I run 1080 FurMark on the GTX I get a score of 2006 @ 33FPS doing the same with the R9 yields a Score of 3906 @ 68FPS. I don't Game so I do not know that much about it and was hoping someone could do some explaining why the GTX does not perform. Clearly there is something wrong 😳 I would hate to think that the GTX card would be that slow compared to the the old R9.
I would really appreciate some Input.
