I'm running a Ryzen 2700X with an MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard. I successfully updated the bios to the latest version here. Everything went smoothly and things are running fine.

Now I discovered this "Chipset driver" on their download page here

I'm confused as to what this is for, and whether or not I need to install it. Is there anything else I need to do to update this motherboard?

The chipset driver is for Windows, the bios is a firmware update for the motherboard. You should install the chipset driver to get the best support for Windows.

Is there anything I need to do before I install this chipset driver? Backup any files? Is it just a normal basic install?

I've never had a chipset driver delete any personal files but if you have anything important, you should always backup first. It should be a rather simple installation.
