So, it is becoming time to move again. I got 3 estimates so far.

$3900 with no insurance, no max price non binding from a weight based mover. A+ BBB since 2004, 1 closed complaint.

- $3700 with free insurance($250 deductible) because I was referred from real estate broker from a weight based mover with a max price charge guarantee of $4100. It is a Worldwide Van Lines carrier. Company started in 1996, with BBB since 2009(2 closed complaints).

-One estimate for $2350 in a binding guarantee by a cubic feet based mover. It is NJWMA Circle of Excellence award winner, for whatever that is worth. It is an independent company, and not part of one of the major van lines. Company started in 1997. With BBB since 2004, A+ rating(0 complaints).

What do you guys think? The cheapest price seems too good to be true, but has all the right things from longstanding good BBB to good reviews online(all perfect reviews... one site had 50+ 5 star reviews).

This is an out of state move. Weight seems arbitrary and can vary greatly. Why should a box with books be more expensive to move than a box of clothes?

Any thoughts?

Weight is a factor because it takes more fuel to move a heavy load than a lighter load...but should take up a smaller area for the same weight. (box of books vs. box of clothes)

I haven't used a moving company since my dad was in the USAF...50 years ago. That last move was a nightmare...lots of stuff lost, damaged, and/or destroyed. (with a major carrier)

In the past 40 or so years, I've moved myself using Uhaul trucks or similar rentals.

Rent a uhaul and hire guys on either end to help load/unload. You retain control of your stuff. No magic price increases enroute. Either that or something like PODS where you can have it delivered, but you retain control of access to the pod. Moving companies are all shady.

I'm looking into it myself. Have to move my crap from CA to IN at the end of May.

Your last quote that's far lower and by cubic foot seems to indicate strong possibility of a scam from what I've read. Maybe all perfect reviews tells you something?

The all perfect reviews is definitely something I don't like, but they do have that award(if it is worth anything) and a perfect BBB record after 10 years, which is impressive.
