Ok, first off, my setup is:

900 mhz Tbird
30 gig Maxtor 7200 HD
256 MB ram
Soundblaster Live
GeForce 256
Win98
300w Enermax EG301P VB

Ok, I have had two motherboards in this thing, and both have had basically the same problem. The first one was a BioStar M7VKB kt133, and now an ECS K7VZA kt133a. They both ran fine, and then when I would reboot the computer, wouldn't post again. They both ran fine for days, and then just powered on, but never lit up the monitor. The Biostar I got to start a couple more times, and run again, before it died. It will even post now for a few seconds, but when I shut it down to put anything else in the computer, it won't start again. The ECS died, and would not boot again, I have RMA'ed that one. But its driving me crazy, I cannot figure out why two motherboards in a row, would die the exact same way. I had a new tower/PSU for the second motherboard, thinking maybe it was the power supply causing a problem. But then it happened again. Does anyone have any idea why this might happen? TIA, I am almost ripping my hair out here. :p

Is the processor okay? I think the problem is the power supply. Try switching it for one with more watts. Hope this helps.

Um, both Biostar and ECS don't really make the best boards, so it could be a coincidence as well. Since the mobo is so important, I recommend a good one, from a company like Asus, Abit, MSI, Gigabyte, Epox, Shuttle, etc (any company you've actually heard of).

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I have an Abit KT7A with an Aopen 300W 60BT.

The computer just froze so I pressed reset and it went into safe mode and then froze in safe mode!

I then tried about 8 times to get it running again but half the time it didn't boot. I just pulled the cord, waited 10 seconds and started it up again. So far it's going OK again.

I should have added that the mobo was tried on 3 different psu's, and my friend tested the processor for me, it has run fine. Could a magnetic screwdriver, one that was just barely magnetized cause any damage like that? Its the only thing that I can think of that could have been a problem.

How old is the house where you are located? Sometimes old electrical lines can be troublesome.
