I'm having trouble getting horizontal lines to be straight near the bottom and top of the screen. At the top they are bowed down slightly but near the bottom they are bowed up, looking like a small hill.

Could you tell me what monitor controls can best fix this?

I'd check to see if there's any sort of magnetic interference anywhere around the monitor. I just had this same problem with a previous monitor, and returned it last week. I looked around for a couple weeks on the net to see if there was any do-it-yourself solution, but other than bringing it in to a shop, there was nothing I could do.

BTW, what type of monitor is this? I had an HP that had this problem.

satori, it's a Dell Trinitron but it's not too bad. It's only about a 1/8 inch or less "hill" in the middle so I can't see it too much unless I hold a ruler against lines on the screen. I really don't want to pack up this monitor and return it for such a small problem but I can see it so maybe I will. How bad was yours?

I recall reading about a bunch of problems with the Dell's (P991). Dunno if this would be applicable to yours, but you might want to check out their help site. Anyways, from what I was able to read on the 'net, a certain amount of "curve" is supposed to be deemed acceptable by the manufacturer. I'm not sure what the exact amount was, but I think it was something like a mm or so. The one I had actually had curves over the >entire< screen. If I displayed a hatch-mark over the entire screen, none of the rectangles would be the same size. Definitely sucked. I think it's ultimately up to you though. I mean, if you got it for a nice price (that 20% deal recently?) than if you can live with it, keep it. The problems I had were a lot worse than yours, so I RMA'ed mine.

btw, sucks that there aren't controls for the top/bottom part of the screen. Left/Right problems can be fixed, sort of, with the pincushion controls. There's probably some technical reason why they never include top/bottom controls.
