Hi, I am having trouble with my monitor. I recently put my computer to sleep in Win7 and left the house for a couple of hours. I didn't turn off the monitor but it does go into a power save feature.

I came back and this green line appeared when I woke the computer up and the monitor turned on.

What can I do? :(

have you even tried rebooting the comp or turning the monitor on and off? does the line show up only on the desktop, or does it show up no matter what you do? does it show up in windows only or in bios as well? you need to do some basic troubleshooting before asking for help so we know where to start and why you were unable to fix the problem yourself

Yes, I am sorry I could have been more specific.

I instantly turned the monitor off then back on again. I restarted the computer thinking it was Win7 or my graphics card.

It showed up all through boot, in the bios and into the desktop. I have launched a couple games but to no avail.

I don't have drivers installed for the monitor, just used it as a plug and play. I am not sure what else to do..

So I am bringing back an old thread since I found no fix. The lines are getting worse. Another green line has popped up as well as a blue line.

I am going to purchase another monitor, but before I do I wanted a little input as to what is out there that might satisfy my needs.

1st off, this is an NEC 90GX2. An absolutely incredible monitor. It is glossy and vivid. Honestly, in person there is no other monitor that I have seen that can touch the colors and sharpness of this monitor. I have seen the Dell U2410, the new IPS HPs and some Samsung TN monitors or whatever monitors they have at Best Buys and Frys. Nothing, and I really mean that nothing comes close to how this monitor looks unless you check out the Apple displays..

So, with that said, has anyone had experience with new NEC monitors (2490's etc..) or any IPS/PVA monitors that have the same color quality as the 90GX2/20WMGX2? I really enjoy the glossy look as the blacks are extremely deep.

Also, I have been on the 19" 1280x1024 wagon for some 4 years now. I am guessing a 22" or 24" monitor will look great and I don't mind updating the graphics card to cope with the extra pixels. Running a 9800GT which is still chugging strong at that res.

Sorry for being so picky, I really cherish the look of my desktop and games.

Yes I've read the LCD Sticky...that only goes so far until you've actually seen the monitors..

Stipulations:
Must be IPS or non TN with good response time for gaming.
Would love Glossy unless tech has made the move without it.
No Apple Cinema Displays please =D
Trying to keep it as cheap as possible unless there is no other choice.

Thanks everyone!

That sucks my Dad's "XEROX" branded 19" 1280x1024 I gave him a few years ago has slowly been developing faded lines similar to this. He has to drop the contrast slowly but eventually he will get to a point where it will either be to dark or to fuzzy.

A shame only 4 year old LCD monitors aren't lasting longer. I'm typing this on a nearly decade old Sony Trinitron CRT.

I see NEC now has a 22" LED backlit LCD monitor, does this make a difference?

LED would be a great upgrade if it is carrying an IPS panel.

Are there any manufacturers pairing IPS and LED yet?

Seems like a monitor issue, but can also be a video card issue.

Your going to have to try another video card on this monitor to make sure its not the graphics card.

Soo if it is the monitor, your going to have to RMA the puppy. What brand was it anyways.. good luck gl,

Yes, I have tried another video card. It is definitely the monitor. It is an NEC 90GX2 and warranty is up.

Looking for other options that have the same quality and larger screen space. Would really like to have a 16:10 format or the format that isn't widescreen.

Press lightly on the LCD glass a little at a time all round the edges of the panel and see if it goes away. If it doesn't the next step is taking apart the monitor and finding the flat ribbon cable that runs from the panel to the controller. On the panel side , again push lightly on where the ribbon is connected to the panel. If that fails to fix it then check where the cable plugs into the circuit board and finally if that doesn't fix it you need to use something plastic to gently tap on the various chips and parts of the circuit board.

From the way it occurred it sounds like a bad connection . The heating up and cooling down stresses solder and mechanical connections. If they are weak it will eventually cause a connection to fail.
