Help with microphone

I wanna use my mic with the new CS 1.3, it's all plugged in, in the right port (hole) anyway if it's un muted in the volume control panel It pipes everything I say through my speakers, and I hate my voice in 5.1 anyway I'm sure it's something simple, hope one of you could enlighten me...

I thought mute the Mic in PLAYBACK menu should be the easiest way already?

Didn't you double click that little "speaker" icon on lower right corner of your screen?
then usually the first menu pop up is the "PLAY BACK" menu.
if you go to "Option"->"property", you can choose "RECORDING" menu.

ok...but it still plays it through my speakers unless I click mute mic or mute all, neither of which I want...
