Well i gave in and bought a new drum for the printer.

I wanna upgrade the memory. Anyone know where to buy the memory and what kind it is? Where it is installed?

Thanks

I assume you mean the Brother HL-1040 Laser printer?

If so, I think you're out of luck. According to the manual, the 1040 has 2MB standard memory and cannot be upgraded. The HL-1050 can be upgraded.

Could you tell me how much use your printer has seen before it required a new drum? I have the same one.

I got a 1040, bought it retail few years ago when they were new.

I have had bad luck with the drums, mine only lasted for one
toner cartridge, suppossed to last for about 5 toner cartridges.
Got tired of buying new drums.
I even bitched to Brother Service and they
sent me a free drum.

Ended up giving the printer to my wife, she doesn't use it much.
I thought the printer was great, downloaded and printed out 100 plus page manuals
in a snap, didn't need extra memory.
