I could use some help with deciding which RAM to get for my aging Dell XPS Gen II Laptop. Currently has 2x512 mb DDR2-667. Dell site says max is 2x1gb of same, which is o.k. with me, but my question is this: their site lists the OEM info as: Kingston DDR2-667 12864 CL 555 200y9530 SODIMM; the only upgrade as I said was to two of the same, but 1gb OEM p/n SNPY9530CK2/2G. When I look around at some of the specials, I find the same type but with a different part number. I know that I have replaced RAM in many desktops without checking the p/n's in the past; could someone tell me which criteria I need to stick with in order for this to work? I would rather not buy from Dell, not because of anything against Kingston, but Dell's price is about double what I can find elsewhere for similar spec chips.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
