Help with Mechwarrior4 demo

I have installed MW4 demo and Direct X 8 but I'm having a litle trouble. It runs fine (no crashes but a few graphic studders) but I can't get the 1st person view from the cockpit. I get third person views of the Mech, and the arrow keys will let me view where the arms are targeted, but I can't get the regular pilot's view.

The readme didn't help much and I do have the 'Options' set to 1st person so I can't figure out the problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?
