Help with making Wedding CD for sister!

Hi everyone,

I want to make an audio CD for my sister's wedding with all her favorite songs to pass out as a wedding favor. I will need 350 Cd's all together and want to make a 2-sided front cover (so when you open it, there will be a picture/track listing/etc on the left side), and a back cover. Also, I would like to put a picture on the actual CD itself.

My question is where is the best place to buy this stuff for the printing and labels? Also, is it recommended to go with printing on the cd straight from a printer or printing a paper label and applying it to the cd? I don't mind either but I've heard that sometimes the paper labels can disrupt the playing of the cd in certain situations. If I do need to print on the actual Cd itself, do I need to buy/borrow a special printer that supports this? Further, is there a CD that is better than others to be printed on? What can I expect to spend and how much time will this approximately take?

Lastly, I have looked at "outsourcing" it to certain websites and the cheapest one I found was: http://www.ascotmedia.com/wedding.htm, which with copying cd's, printing inserts, and printing on the actual cd came to about $650-$700. That is a bit much for me and would like to get it done as cheaply as possible but also in a way that will provide the least hassle. I don't mind actually doing the monotonous work of burning, printing, and labeling but I want to make sure the Cd's look decent and will play flawlessly. Any suggestions from anyone that has done this in the past? Best CD's, best labels, cases etc? Any recommended companies to look into for part or all of this job?

BTW, this music is all either personal (karaoke) type stuff or Indian music so there are NO copyright issues.

THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance.

Prav

-Also posted this in Tech Support, but didnt know where it was appropriate.

Sorry, that's still too much. I would like to do it somehow (myself or through someone else) for $250-300. At that price, I know I'll probably have to do it myself.

probably... it is labor intensive if its a one man job, so you'd have to do it alone for a good deal or get a company, which is obviously too expensive as you said.

lemme tell you from experience... if you plan on burning them yourself... get started now... it's boring as all hell doing any more than 10-15 CDs, and doing a few hundred in a matter of a few days sucks BAD.

Depending on how the labels look, you may want to have a printing service do them or ink costs will KILL you.

The inserts won't be hard for a professional printer, either. All in all, it may run you a couple hundred to do the CD labels and inserts...

Buy a few packs of slimline cases, burn and assemble yourself, and you're awesome.

Could you buy another burner or 2? Burning 3 at once will really reduce your time involvement. I am guessing by about a third :S

or get the ISO to friends, so they can mass produce it with you. Get the stick-on labels...didn't notice disruptions from using them. Be sure to use quality cds though.

You may want to post in a music forum, I am sure small bands know which method is the most inexpensive.

You may also want to consider using sleeves instead of jewel cases if you are concerned about price.

For 250-300 of them, slim line jewel cases won't be too bad. You can hit up a sale at Fry's/Microcenter and get a box of 100 of them for $10. They only cost a bit less than the CDs, actually!

It's the labels that will kill him.

get an Epson R200 its got a special tray for CD/DVDs to print on, plus you can get ink fairly cheap. for the inserts I suggest taking them to kinkos and having them print off the inserts for you and you cut them up yourself.

Kinko's usually cuts for free if you print with them.

Even still, they have better paper cutters in the "help yourself" section of the store than most people have. (i.e. scissors)

Thanks everyone for the great replies...Printing the labels should not be a problem since I have a hookup but the main problem will be buying the labels for the case and for the CD, can anyone suggest the best/cheapest brand.

Also, what is the best "CD applicator?" I know Verbatim, Neato and few other companies do them...any thoughts on the best? And where can I get the refill packs the cheapest?

Btw, like I said at the end of the post, there are no copyright issues...so no worries there.
And for the people that were wondering, I have 4 burners so shouldn't be any problem.

Thanks again for your help.
