I am really struggling through making SVCD's from my VHS-C home movies. I have captured some .avi with a dazzle DVC 50. I bought the MPEG2 plug in from Nero and have been trying to get it to work with no luck. I just can't get Nero to even give me the option to burn the disk. I add the files in a new SVCD compilation( I have tried .avi's and mpegs) and the buttons to burn the disk stay grayed out. What the heck am I doing wrong? I can't figure it out. According to the Nero site the plug in will convert whatever file into the correct format automatically? Thanks for any help.

Nero encoding has never been all that reliable. What you need is a dedicated video utility like Pinnacle Studio SE (I use it, it's sweet with presetings for VCD, SVCD, etc. so you know it'll work) or Ulead MediaStudio. www.vcdhelp.com also goes over the process.

Nero's built in encoding is HORRIBLE. You should do everything externally and just use nero to burn the SVCD. The best program for this is probably Tmpgenc, which has a 30 day trial for MPEG2 encoding (although if for some reason your date is set in 2004 . . . your trial will expire in 2004 even if you rollback). The default SVCD profile is excellent, with just 2 options you need to adjust that are fairly self explanitory. The encoding quality is only surpassed by scenarist.

I just tried encoding with TMPGEnc. I used the SVCD template. Nero still won't make the CD, WTF!!!! This is a full version of Nero that I just downloaded and bought a serial# for. Is there anything that you guys can think of that I can be doing wrong here?
