help with lock up's

I can't run any of my games like nhl 2001 and cabellas grand slam hunting, they will start then run a minute or so then lock up and I have to reboot to get going again. I also had this happening as I ran the internet and explorer but found that disableing my power savings in bios took care of that. I first thought then it was just the games but it also locks up running my nero media player. Anyone have this problem before?
