Hey all,

I seem to have no luck getting into the admin page..(192.168.1.1) to get a network running between my machine...and my bro's. I've cycled the power for my @Home cable modem, as well as the router off and on several times, with no luck, though when the cable modem is connected to the router which is connected to my pc, the cable modem shows a connection to my computer (though it isn't on). So it seems that the cable modem recognizes the router, but when I turn my comp on and go to IE5 and type in the admin page...it can't seem to find it. :disgust: All the proxies have been turned off as well....Firmware is version 1.38...any thoughts guys?

First, make sure you don't have another machine on your network using that same IP address.

Is that the only Ethernet adapter winipcfg shows? Also, what response do you get when you ping 192.168.1.1?
P.S. The cable modem has nothing to do with accessing the admin page from your internal network.

Are you sure that's the address of the router? You might have changed it by accident when configuring it, just like this thread.
BTW: What's the IP address of your PC?

yep..that's the address of the router....i double-checked....my ip address is: 24.3.199.161

gateway: 24.3.199.1

i get this damning feeling that my bro's pc has something on it..thats conflicting....but I don't think its his ip address...

whats the way to change what winipcfg sees as my ethernet adapter?

Err...how are you gonna communicate with a router that has an address of 192.168.1.1 if your machine has an address of 24.3.199.161? Do you have another device in your topology that will route you to the Linksys or what?

Either set your machine with a static IP address of 192.168.1.x (whatever won't conflict with anything) with a gateway of 192.168.1.1 or set it to use dynamic IP addressing (assuming the Linksys' DHCP service is enabled).

Don't know your exact topology, but this change will probably affect any other networking services you have running right now.

You have to clear out ALL the settings of your network neighborhood to be able to log into the router.

once you've cleared everything out (dns, gateway all that crap) choose "get my ip address automatically" or whatever it is under the IP tab...

Now you'll be able to connect to the router.

No problem.

I know how frustrating it is to deal with this.

I spent 6 hours at another persons house, only to later find out it was their damn cable.

:)

oh well, glad it works for ya.
