Help with Linksys Router, 1 connection is FUBAR

I bow down to the great gods of Anandtech Land to help me with my problem. 😱

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 4 port router hooked my computer and my wifes computer and the AT&T/Mediaone Roadrunner. My system runs great, but my wife's computer will sometimes connect to the 'net and other times it won't.

I have noticed that when it WILL NOT connect, the "Link/Act" on the router flashes rapidly, while the same light for my connection is steady or a slow blink while sending or receiving over the net.

As best I can tell, if the computer will connect sometimes, the setup has to be right.

Any suggestions? Tips? Thoughts?

I DO appreciate the help I have received here before and will do so again.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Could be the NIC in her machine, usually when they at the beginning of the end, they will start sputtering out broadcst packts like mad. The hub/Router will then usually partition them out while this is happening. I might try a new NIC in that machine and test it for a few days.

That's for the reply. I'll try that.

Is that from personal experience or just old fashioned know how?

Anyway, thanks again.

Keep other suggestions coming.

Outlamd is probably right.

However, a long shut, before you buy a new NIC.

Try to exchange the cables (plug your cable to your wife computer and vice versa), in other words make sure it is not a cat5 problem.

Try to plug your wife?s computer to another port in the Router,(or exchange the ports between the computers), to make sure that it is not a Router problem.

Thanks again for the assistance, guys.

I had tried the cable. I noticed one was twisted near the NIC and I replaced it. I also tried the other ports.

As always, I appreciate it. It's off to CompUSa for a new NIC.

Any NIC'c better or worse than others?
