I wanted to know what variables, besides NIC card, network settings/protocols, cables, hubs, can be responsible for incredibly slow file sharing through windows 9x.
The system in question: dell inspiron laptop 4000, PIII 700, 128 ram.
 
I even repartitioned, formatted, and installed a new operating system, and completely rebuilt the network settings.
 
how bout a bad hard drive? sometimes a old laptop i had would take 25 minnutes to finish a scandisk.. and sometimes 4 minnutes?
