help with intellimouse optical

I just got my intellimouse optical today...and I was testing it out in unreal tournament. a lot of the time, my mouse would mess up and my view in UT would look down and spin around in circles.

important points:
- I'm using PS/2
- I'm using it on my desk so there are some light wood grain. I tried using my free Navy mousepad and it's even worse: mouse would skip like crazy even though I didn't move it fast
- using intellipoint 3.2 on win98SE machine

I heard there was a way to change the PS/2 rate to 200. I tried double click on the little mouse icon in the lower right corner on my taskbar and I couldn't find anything to set the ps2 rate. can anyone help me?

i dunno what to tell you, my optical works beautifuly, no matter where i put it. on the desk, on my butt... wherever. maybe because its ps2? ive got a usb

this mouse is bugging me now...it's been skipping a lot. I remember reading a huge argument over using ps2 or usb and most ppl seem to agree ps2 is the best as long as the rate is set to 200.

IF you can use USB, why don't you???????? I heard it's lot better than the PS/2. I also couldn't set my optical mouse to 200Rate/sec, dunno why...

Mine is USB with a ps2 connector and it works out of this world. I can to use it anywhere that I want error free.

Check their website out to see if upgrade drivers or tips.

I have an Intellimouse Optical and it works fine in UT. I'm using USB and the mouse is also on my desk. I'd try USB, since it has a higher rate than ps2 (when the rate isn't changed). Also make sure you're using it on a dark surface.

And BTW, USB might take more CPU ressources than ps2, but believe me you'll never notice it. (it doesn't take a 2 ghz cpu to run a mouse 🙂 ) It also saves you an IRQ.

i too have a new optical mouse....two problems. 1.) it will only work as a ps2, and 2.) when installed as USB, i get a conflict message with my soundcard (drivers will not load). haven't had much time to play with so far. anything obvious that i'm missing? before this i did not have any usb devices.😕

The PS/2 adapter limits the Hz to about 90 making programs like PS/2 Rate less effective. Only pure PS/2 mice can make it to 200 Hz and USB mice are 125 Hz standard.
