Okay Im having alot of trouble fixing my girlfriends computer, oddly enough it just needed a simple reformat but its not being friendly

so the story goes... turned into best buy because she got the BB service plan for 3 years so i told them to send it to vaio and they "apparently" replaced the hard drive and fans even though i think they didnt do anything at all cause it still gets pretty hot and obviously, having many troubles installing XP. The first time trying to install, setup would load except there would be an error "loading keyboard interface" and then immediately restart or shut down.. i then thought that it needed to be formatted first, so i used a vista cd to format the HD then tried installing XP again but now it gets to the screen where i can "press enter to setup windows" etc. but is literally up for 2 seconds before it shuts down.. her system cant run vista so i gotta stick with XP..im currently running Dban right now but its going at like 830 kb/s which is ridic slow. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Forums :) If you have the laptop's original restoration CDs, try them and see how that goes. During installation, I suggest following the security safeguards listed here so it doesn't get dominated by network worms during Setup.

thanks for the quick reply and the welcome...

we actually dont have the recovery cd or restoration cd... all the safeguards are accounted for.. it just seems to be hardware problems i gues
