Hey everyone!

Me and the gf will be going to NYC soon and hotels are freakin expensive!:disgust: Does anyone know of any really cheap hotels around them, or if not, maybe suggest the most comfortable benches?

And the best food! WHERE?! Thanks!

While the concept of not knowing where you're staying might put you off a bit, it lets you choose area and hotel quality (three-star, four star etc..). Worked WONDERFULLY when I stayed in San Francisco. Saved $70 a night too.

I stayed at the Gorham last time I went to NY. Nice place, not too far from Times Square and NBC studios.

Edit: Forgot... subway entrance was right across the street.. so it was extremely easy to get around.

Stayed at the Empire Hotel a couple summers back...was about $130/140 a night. Right across from Lincoln Center.

Food? Heck, about anyplace...esp. down in Greenwich Village.

Most of my visits were either on business (Stayed at Midtown Hilton or the Waldorf) or visiting a friend (stayed at his place in Jersey)

I've stayed in nyc about 10 times this year so far and i use hotwire to book all my weekend stays. Best Hotels for the cheapest price. Honestly. I stayed at the Waldorf for 120/nite with Hotwire one of those times.

Don't stay at any ultra-cheap places in the Gramercy district of Manhattan. Chances are its an all-gay hotel. With 'community' showers (don't drop the soap!) And a transvestite floor. Trust me...you don't want to make the same mistake I did! :Q

EDIT: Oh yeah...my last trip to NYC went well. I stayed at the Hotel Edison, which is right in the thick of Times Square! Rooms were only $120 a night...compared to $300/night at the brand-new, totally fugly W hotel next door. Check for their rates on discount sites (Travelocity, Expedia etc.) and then call them directly to match that price and avoid paying a 'convenience fee'.
