what do I connect the cable to that comes out of the sound card? in the back of my receiver i have VCR 1, TV/VCR2, Tape, CD, Phono -- where would the red and white rca plugs go? thanks.

Don`t use phono, anyspare selecter on the others should be okay, try vcr1,or vcr2 whatever you have avaliable except phono.the red & white go on the input connections at the back of receiver, one is for right(RED) channel & one for left (WHITE)channel so if you were to use say VCR1, PUT THE RED RCA PLUG ON INPUT FOR VCR1 ON RIGHT CHANNEL & WHITE RCA PLUG ON INPUT FOR LEFT CHANNEL.

This is a copy and paste - I hope it will help a bit:

1. Get a good quality cable with a 1/8" (Mini) stereo plug on one end, splitting in two RCA plugs (labeled L/R) at the other end.

2. As with all Hi-Fi equipment, caution should be exercised during connections. Turn the power OFF for all gear until you are certain the connections are correct.

3. Plug the 1/8" end into the Line Out of the sound card.

4. Plug the RCA end into the CD input of your stereo (observing Left & Right orientation).

If you have a 2 channel input (L, R), you will connect the Line Out jack from the sound card to your stereo using a cable that splits into RCA right and left for your stereo. If you have 4 Channel input on your stereo, you will connect the Line 1 Out and Line 2 Out (if your sound card is so equipped) using 2 cables that split into RCA right and left for your stereo. If your stereo has 6 channel inputs, connect the same as for 4 channels, leaving the Center L and R channels unused (they will be ren-dered through the front speakers).

Did you select say CD on the front of reciever when you had it connected to CD INPUTS AT BACK & Pc switched on.Makesure the other end (3.5mm plug)goes to line out on soundcard have the volume on reciever up a little also.

i have a "y" audio cable that has the mini-stereo plug on one end (for the sound card) and rca plugs on the other. I have the red and white rca plugs in the CD holes in the back of my receiver and the other end plugged into the sound card -- still no sound.

Check the sound card end the small jackplug should be in lineout, next check volume controls in software on Pc (all of them),I have done this once with the volumes at Zero & took me awhile to relize the problem. If no sound ,then the problem should be at the receiver end.On my Amp if I push tape monitor button in ,I get no sound check this.

Taking a different tack:

Maybe you've done this already, but first get your PC speakers working off the sound card. If you can't then it's the PC or the sound card. I hope you're beyond that point by now, though.

Go to a place like Radio Shack when they're not busy and ask them to check the receiver - the store near me is real helpful like that. It should only take 'em a few minutes.

What I do is, hook up my audio to my VCR, and use what's empty there. I have two TV outs, one for Video one, and the other for Video 2. With the TV outs, are left and right inputs for RCA left(white) and right(right) jacks. I don't have any room in the back of my receiver, but my VCR does the job quite nicely.

However, follow the advice above, and go Radio shack and get the longest 1/8" jack that splits into two RCA jacks. Mine's only 6ft long, as that's the longest I could find.
