So I have a Accord 02, so car is about 3 yrs old. Keyless entry remote battery died about 4 wks ago. Replaced with the appropiate battery model from Radio Shack. But about 1 wk later, the new battery in remote died. Got battery replaced at the Shack for free, thinking it was a bad battery. Another 1 wk later, 2nd new battery died (both times, pressing remote does not disarm car nor opens door, and light indicator on remote is very weak). So bought a new battery at Office Max. Again 1 wk later, the 3rd new battery died, and remote won't open doors/disarm alarm.

I'm using a back-up remote that came w/ the alarm system, it has the original battery in there (only been used a few times in 3 years, only when I travel or have the dealer work on the car) and it's been working fine. Question is, what's wrong w/ my old remote? Is something shorting it out to make the batteries die within a week? Is it possible to get a new remote keyless entry at dealer that has my alarm/code programmed in, and is this gonna cost me an arm+leg(?) (I consider anything over 40 or so for a remote exorbitant...).

Ideas, suggestions?

Dropped your keyfob in water recently? :p

I think you've got a short. That or you're sitting on it and it's constantly transmitting.

I've dropped my keychain w/ remote a few times in the past 3 yrs, but no exposure to water or physical damage... and I don't sit on my keys... only time they're in pocket is when I'm walking around shopping, else they're out of my pocket or in the ignition..

either your remote is just bad, or something is pushing the button without you knowing it.

You don't need a battery, just stick that remote over your forehead and push the button. You're the battery.

i have an integra and i dunno about yours but mine has a small red light when its 'ON'. My battery used to die a lot just like yours and one night i noticed the damn light is always ON/LIT. So the battery was being used 24/7...not just when i pressed it. I changed batteries a few times and finally once while opening it up, i basically rearranged the mechanics inside, cleaned it up a bit, cleaned the battery contacts...now, no more light and battery lasts long time. :)

So,..its not the battery, its a 'bad' remote.

I have a 99 Accord... How long does it take for the battery to drain? I can't always get my doors to open recently...

Get a replacement on ebay. Dealers rip you off for those things plus charge large fees to "program" the car to recognize it.

So, yeah, does it have the little red light (like the one for my 2004 Accord)? If so, is the light always on? If so, pop that thing open and clean the little area on the circuit board where the lock/unlock button makes contact.

It might be the same thing that happens to TV remotes and stuff.

Remote does have the red light, will take it apart to clean to see if that solves the problem...
thanks for all the suggestions. Found a possible replacement on Ebay, $18-20 or so w/ programming instructions. Took me a while to find those instructions on my own on google....
