Help with hidden folders after a reformat

Gundam

Senior member
I've made a folder on my hard drive "hidden" due to the information stored there. However, i just reformatted and when i go back to that folder, I am unable to access it whatsoever (Access Denied.) Is there any way to get around this so I can get my files back?

You need to take ownership of the folder. If your on XP turn of simple file sharing and use the permissions dialog to take ownership.

I'm a total n00b at this. How would I go about turning off simple fire sharing and get to the permissions dialog?

From any folder go to the menu bar and then Tool\Folder Options\View (of all the silly places)\Use Simply file sharing (last check mark item in the list)

I add my name under the permissions menu, but I'm unable to apply the changes. It says access is still denied.

In that security dilaog, go to Advanced and then the Owner tab. Change the owner to one of the admin accounts listed. Then from that account (if it's different from your normal one) apply the permissions like you attempted.

Thanks! I was able to get it to be accessible.
