help with hdd jumper

Didn't quite know how to make a title appropriate for this but i have a maxtor 10gig hdd that i want to use to store junk on. The problem is i have lost the little square dealies that you plug into the back to be able to make the drive master, slave, etc.. is there anything else i can use (something metal and small that i can bend?) so i can get this thing working..

Just about any jumper will work. Look aroung at any old pieces or parts you have for one. If no extra parts yet, go bug a local computer shop or a few friends for a jumper. I wouldn't just put anything in there due to shorting out risks.

Had the same problem last year. Went to the CompUSA repair window and one of the techs gave me two. Wouldn't let me pay anything.

shyrjiin, PM me you snail mail addy if you live in the US and I'll mail two out to you on Monday 🙂

well thanks zim but i just got two from my wifes mobo (guess they didn't matter bc it booted up just fine) and set them to slave, the problem is i think the hdd is broken or something bc all it does is click..

Last time I had drives clicking like that, I had the jumpers set wrong. Make sure you don't have two masters or two slaves on the same IDE cable.

I can't believe this ... I strongly suggest you check back what they were for RIGHT NOW. They might be voltage adjustment or things like that ... frying your wife's computer over time.

perhaps i should put them back, anyway i think the hdd is gone because i still got the persistant clicking

Offer is still open shyrjiin if you need them 🙂

well after setting the hdd to slave and plugging it in and still hearing the clicking i don't think the problem is the jumper settings although i don't know what the problem is it's just been laying on the desk here.. oh well... thanks anyway
