YO ATers,

I need help ! :( or a question. If i have a older motherboard that only supports up to ATA66 harddrive. Is it possible that i can put in a ATA100 harddrive? I dont recall that harddrives are backward compatible or it is?

yes

It will work. It will just work at whatever speed you have.

Yep, your HD should detect the max transfer speed of your IDE controller and alter the interface as necessary.

Don't worry, you aren't really missing much by not having ATA100 mode. The best data transfer rate that 7200 RPM hard drives are achieving is around 30 MBit/sec when pulling data off the platters.

let me scratch that. I have ata 33 harddrive support. So does it still work with a ata 100?
