Hello everyone.
I wanted to get some thoughts on configuring my next rig's hard drives. I am going to go with a MB that will have both SATA and IDE RAID interfaces. The configuration I had in mind was making a striped RAID array consisting of (2) WD Raptor 36 Gig SATAs as my primary partition that would hold my OS, system files, system apps, MS Office and so forth. Then, I was going to go with (2) WD SATA 120 Gig drives for files like games, music, etc. as my "data" partition.
My questions are:
1.) Will this configuration work? (I belive that it will, unless there is some limitation I am not considering)
2.) Since I am striping the Raptors, will striping the data-portion of my array make any difference?
3.) Again, in looking at the data portion of the array, should I go with the SATA interface, or is it just as good to get a couple of WD Special Edition IDE drives (8MB cache). For the price of the SATA 120s, I could get 200 Gigs for a little bit more.
Thanks for any insights or opinions!
Thanks for
