I'm just trying to backup some of my movies but have no idea how to do it!

I did one last week and all I did was choose normal settings and it worked perfectly.

However, the same setting does not work for my other film? The audio is really stuttery and the picture keeps freezing? There's also parts where the picture is multi-coloured ! :L

Can anyone help me? What settings should I be using?

I don't think it's a problem with my CPU- I have a core i5 3570k if that helps?

What program did you use to rip the dvd? Maybe your initial rip is bad to Hanbrake is just converting the bad rip to the settings you used.

You also need a program like AnyDVD to break the coding in newer movies (if you are ripping from DVDs.) Also, in some cases, if the file size is too big, Handbrake will create an unviewable file... you need to check 'large file size' before encoding.

Yes, we will need a few more answers.

#1 - What are you ripping, DVDs, BRs, etc.?

#2 - What did you use to rip the media to the HDD?

#3 - What are you using for playback? PC, Roku, AppleTV, etc.?

#4 - What format did you convert to? .mp4, .mkv, etc.

Hey guys!

Thanks for all the help but not to worry! I caved and brought WinX DVD ripper- all looking good so far.

I think I was probably trying use Handbrake in an unintended way- I assumed it could rip films straight off without using any other program first :L

It can do that, actually. WinXDVD Ripper is a good all in one program, though. I have used it in the past. There's a lot less advanced control than handbrake, but it does the job nicely.
