I got a black edition phenom II x2 that I wanted to try unlocking to an x4. The problem is when I changed the firmware to hybrid in the BIOS, the machine shut down and wouldn't boot back up. I've got it back up and running just fine, but wondering why the firmware switch failed? I'm hesitant to try again.

In the BIOS under ACC set the EC Firmware to Hybrid and All Cores (Some ppl say use Auto but when I did this it only showed two cores. All Cores give me all four cores unlocked). Save and reboot. Should work. If it hangs then you may have a dud 550BE. Voltage may help but not guaranteed. I unlocked mine with a 790X-UD4P.

Yeah I know the process. The problem was that after it was done switching to hybrid the machine shut down and would not boot back up. I had to pop the battery to get it to go again. Could it be a voltage issue or just some fluke incident? I know there's a chance I have a dud, but I don't think that would cause the machine to die like this.

I unlocked my Sempy 140 with this ...
Gigabyte&

... and OC'ed the 2 cores to 3.8GHz or so.

I'm going to pop a Phenom 550BE in during lunch and see how it goes.

edit: Looks like I won the AMD Lottery once again ... :p

Unlocked and cranked to 3.4GHz+ at 1.39v. I thought I'd try to outsmart AMD and only use the base clock but the 'BE' didn't like it at all-even at 205MHz.

I got bold, dropped the cpu multi to stock and dropped the vcore -.05v. This reduced system wattage at load from 174w (above) to 134w at 1,248v and 3.1GHz+ (and really cooled the NB down).

It also let me run C&Q --- 804MHz at 0.912v:

Needless to say this US2H has been good to me :D
