I just built a system with the following specs:

Gigabyte GA-7DX mobo with Athlon XP 2000+.
512 MB (2x256) DDR PC2100 ECC, Registered RAM
PS: Enermax 365P-VE 350W

the rest is pretty much irrelevant to the question.

I press the power button, and nothing happens. None of the fans starts spinning, the only thing I see is a little yellow LED lights up on the motherboard. It's labeled DIMM CONN LED and the manual only says that it's on if there is enough power for the RAM. I have checked all connections (fans, power supply, etc etc etc) *many* times, reseated the memory, tried using just 1 of the RAM sticks, etc. Nothing seems to help. The parts are brand new (won them in the AMD XPP giveaway in santa clara). RAM was bought a few months ago but has never been used.

Please help! I'm freaking out here...would really like to get this thing up and running. Any advice highly appreciated. Thanks.

check if the cpu is properly in socket,,I did that once,,didnt pull it down properly and the pc was dead....
try another stick of memory if you have one available,,no ecc memory that is.
also check all the connectors..it is easy to mix them up.

You might have to face the possibility that your mobo is dead. I had a similar problem; I was installing a RAM DIMM and when I tried to boot, the fans came on, the system checked the hard drives, and just before it did a floppy seek, it hung there doing nothing. I left the PC on for a LONG while to see if anything else might happen, and turned it off. I checked the RAM to see if it was installed properly, turned on the PC, and nothing happened. I took it in for repair to TIME and they had to replace the mobo.

Check which version of ga-7dx motherboard you have. If is version 2.2 or before, those doesn't support any 266mmhz front bus. If is before which bios version do you have? You will need the lastest bios update for your motherboard to support XP.

I have the same motherboard refurbish from newegg version 4.0 works fine with my 1ghz tbird.
Anyone i'm wrong in any of this info, please correct me
