Help with gaming system revamp

My current system is nearly 3 years old. I want to play Battlefield Bad Company 2. Playing the beta now I have about 20-35 fps. My current system has:
Vista Ultimate
Intel Core 2 DU E6700 2.66 MGHz
Twin Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS in SLI
4MB RAM
1000 watt Silverstone Power
EVGA NForce 680I SLI motherboard

I want to revamp the system--new motherboard, processor, and video card

I'm not real up on computers these days.
Any help with which processor and video card I should go with? To play the new games (Battlefield BC2 and Battlefield 3 when it comes out) at high FPS? And not to have to replace my system for a couple more years.
Is it better to go with hardware just a bit older and cheaper or go with the latest and best?
Suggestions?
One video card or two??
Thanks!!!

We can't answer that without knowing your budget, what you would want to reuse, etc.

I do have a question though -- do you have the older version of the 8800GTS or the newer G92 version?

It's a console port so those are more GPU bound than anything else. What's your budget for the upgrade? I'd recommend upgrading to an HD 5850 or 5870 if you can afford it. Or wait for the Nvidia Fermi GPUs. The lower priced high-mid range cards probably won't make that big a difference.
Crossfire/SLI is pointless. It's fickle and performance gains don't justify the cost IMO.

The nForce 680i supports up to 1333mhz FSB processors. Maybe your board supports the E8000 series Wolfdales. Quad core doesn't make a huge difference for games. I'd go with higher clock speeds.

It's the older video cards.
My budget--well, for parts--maybe $1300-1500?
I'd like to reuse everything except video cards(s), processor, and new motherboard if needed.

CPU: Intel Core i7-920 $200 at microcenter or $300 everywhere else

MOBO: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R $209 . Has everything you will need. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-423-_-Product

RAM: get 6 gigs, low voltage 1600mhz. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231335

Do you mean 4'gb' in your current rig? Second if it is DDR3 then you might want to temporarily want to use it until ram prices come down or try to find a another stick to run tripple channel now.

Video Card: Wait for fermi if you want to save a few but also means waiting a another month so depends on when you want it. Also post the resolution of your monitor cause that will dictate what GPU is required.

PSU: yours should be good to power anything.

With your budget, you can build a exceptional high-end gaming system. Get a decent CPU air cooler(or h50) if you are going to overclock. Don't consider spending $400 dollars on watercooling to cool your $500 worth of parts.

Good Luck
