Help with games

I just got a brand new gaming computer, toaly custom. It has all of the latest hardware in it.

AMD Athalon 64 3500+
ATI Radeon X800 GT 256 MB PCI Express 16
2 GB of RAM
1 - 160 GB HardDrive, & 1 - 80 GB HardDrive
Creative X-Fi Sound Card
Windows XP w/ Service Pack 2

Now here is the problem, when I play some games like Land of the Dead or Unreal Tournament 2004 it freezes. Like either when I load the game up or get into a game or start a new game. It freezes and loops about a 2-3 second clip of the last sound I heard. Then 5-6 seconds later, I hear it again. This cause me to restart my computer. It doesnt do this for Battle Field 2 or Counter-Strike:Source/ Steam Games.

My friend said that it might be the new video card, since its new, alot of bugs and glitches. He suggested for me to buy a ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256 MB.

Please help.

goto ati's website and get the latest drivers for your current card. this sounds driver related and may have been fixed in a newer version (if you dont already have the latest drivers) another thing that can cause it is memory timings that are too tight, its 2GB of ddr so make sure its all set to auto in the bios and not overclocked. are the crashing games at their latest updates?

i dont think its because your using AMD, i think its a video card driver bug that is fixed in a newer released driver you can get from ati's website (even though that card is a very new release)

It has to do with the DEP security of the Athlon 64. Do this-

1. From the desktop, right click on My Computer and go to Properties.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Click on Settings for Startup and Recovery.
4. click on the Edit button.
5. Look for noexecute=optin and change it to execute=optin
6. Go to File and Save.
7. Restart your computer.

Let us know how it goes.

Don't listen to your friend.

Follow the advice already given here. If it's not the video drivers, check the sound drivers next. After that make sure you have the latest patches for the games that are crashing.
