help with gainward 6800gt

my video card Gainward 6800gt is overheating, last year I tried to install a zalmar heatsink to replaced the red one with two fans, but when i push the power button the video card wont boot o work with another fan. Since then I been seen tem idle 50* and during gaming 70-

anyone tried the zalmar with this cards...

I'm confused as to what exactly the problem is based on your post, however I'm guessing that the Gainward detects fan speeds via the 3-pin connecter & if it doesn't detect a fan connected on powerup it shuts down the card to prevent heat damage.

Secondly, I assume you purchased a Zalman VGA heatsink to provide primary cooling for the GPU, but it depends which model you have ... some will handle a 6800GT easily & some won't be able to handle it.

I'm running my Gainward 6800gt GS GLH with the NV5 from Arctic Cooling and it detects the fan and works without a problem. I don't know much about the zalman gpu hsf's but if it won't detect i'd try rma'ing the zalman
