I have a
bfg 6800 gt OC (with Nvidias latest drivers)
K8N Neo2 Plat mobo (did no change bios)
athlon 3200+ 64 (939) Stock Fan
Using Onboard sound and lan

I came across this problem right after i built my computer. I would play a game and then every 5-10 mins my system would freeze up/ lag. (i have no control of keyboard or mouse). After i would play awhile it would become more frequent.

Would this be a overheating issue?
or compatiability problem?

Any suggestions on how i can tackle this problem? any help would be great

only a game?

There could be lots of things to check.

Does the screen go black?

Does the Pc still processing ( like fans rotating, HD going) ?

It could be:
Drivers: Windows Xp sp2 sucks, use sp1 only,
--------------Direct X 9.0c

Hardware:
----CPU
----RAM
----MOBO
----VIdeo Card
----HDD
----any onther pci card on the Mobo.

FOr this problem there is alot of troubleshooting you will have to do. cause it could really be anything, from RAM to VideoCard, or even not enought power the the video card could cause it.
-Take out any other pci slots out.. helped me once...

Alot of times it will no be heat.

Use a digital volt meter to monitor the 12V rail that powers the CPU (if the PSU has only one 12V rail, then monitor it) while running prime95 torture test for 10 minutes. Make sure that the voltage does not drop too much.

If the PSU is OK, run memtest overnight. If the next day, there are no errors, the RAM is OK. If there are any errors, you should relax timings or reduce RAM overclock or increase VDIMM.

If RAM is stable, run prime95 overnight. If it is still running the next day, the CPU is OK. If it has stopped, you need to improve CPU cooling or reduce CPU overclock or increase VCore.

If CPU and RAM are stable, monitor the 12V rail that goes to the graphics card while running ATItool and scanning for artifacts. make sure the voltage does not drop too much.

If the PSU and the RAM and the CPU are all stable and you still have freezes, you either have a faulty graphics card or you need to improve the cooling of your case or your graphics card.
