I have been having problems with my system with the cdrom freezing when it feels like it, which is most of the time when installing new software. It plays music cds just fine. I have noticed that when it does freeze the hard disk light is still on as well as the cdrom light, could it be a hard disk problem??. I have tried all the usual stuff, checked cables, reinstall cd rom , hard disk controllers, with no joy.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I agree w/ jugornot you should look for a bios update and also all windows updates. One more thing I would check out is your usage of youur IDE channels. Many people say that having the CD-ROM and Hard Drive on two different channels is the only way to go. So try to put the Hard Drive on channel A and the CD-ROM on channel B.
