Alright, I'm attempting to run PainKiller on my

AMD 2800+ Athlon XP Barton
FIC Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb
1GB Corsair Value RAM downclocked to PC2700

I have everything on the lowest possible settings, and when I say lowest possible, I mean 640x480 and every sort of image enhancer disable/on lowest. It usually runs quite smoothly, but whenever I attempt to enter a new area of a map (this is on multiplayer, not single player, if it were single player I'd understand, but this is just pretty ridiculous) it lags for a second, and sometimes even when it's in the same area.

I was told my a friend that it might be my RAM, which I refused to believe because I just purchased that Cosair 1GB :( If it is, though, let me know, or let me know if a defrag or something might be able to help all this run faster.

i assume that your connection speed is high enough to handle the game. otherwise, i'd think the problem may lie in the video card... and why is your ram downclocked??

eh, not playing it online, just practicing jumping around on my LAN server. As for the video card, I'm thinking that's it, and I got in on the X800XTPE deal, so if it is, it won't be a problem soon. My RAM's downclocked my stuff only supports PC2700 atm.

Sounds like a system problem - patch the game and make sure you've installed the latest chipset and GPU drivers for your system.

Also, update audio drivers. Audio can take up a serious amount of CPU cycles. A quick check would be to back off any audio enhancements in the game.

it shouldnt be a video card problem at all. It's a hdd(not likely unless youre running a slow ass hdd) or a cpu problem. do you jhave onboard audion and 3d sound on? 3d sound takes 30% cpu on a realtek audio board.

I second this. Many times I've had games get jumpy for no real reason and updating my audio drivers did the trick. Recommended even more if you have built in audio.
