I thought I had an Afreey 10x DVD drive, at least that's what the guy told me when I bought the drive from him in the For Sale/Trade forum. Anyway, I want to update the firmware because the DVD ripping speed was pretty bad (less than 2x). Downloaded the v41 and v42 firmware and booted into DOS. Lo and behold, the update program tells me that the drive and the firmware don't match. Hmmm... do I really know if this drive is an Afreey 10x drive? It works, but not to the level I want. Any tips?

I'm interested in the solution 'cause I have an Afreey 10x DVD drive myself ( the one with the "wavy" tray). Where did you get the firmware?

In the little splash screen that shows up for like 2 seconds during boot has no entry, but when looking through the BIOS options, it comes up as 1 0X DVD. Yes, that's the actual entry. Is there a quickie program in 'doze that I can use to ID the formware?

Go to google and search for Afreey 10X DVD firmware. I think the model name is 4010, but I'm not sure. My drive also has the wavy front as well and an Afreey sticker on the top.

Yeah, that's where I got the firmware I tried... Both the 41 and 42 versions give me the same error. BTW, the link doesn't work, there's a <BR> in the middle. Any quick ways to read the firmware on the drive?
