Help with finding a soundcard for my needs

Hey all, I currently have an Aureal SuperQuad PCI with optical out , and I'm running on Win2K Professional platform. However, this soundcard has been problematic ever since I changed From 98 OSR2.1. I haven't been able to find any drivers which allow me to have two line outs, so I need either new drivers or a new soundcard with the following specifications:

*Stable and supported under Windows 2kPro. Supports DirectX under win2000.

*Has 2 Line outs: My Superquad had front speaker out and rear speaker out, but when configured for 2 speakers under win98, both front and rear outputs were the same thing, so I could use 1 output for headphones (when the roomate was studying 🙂 )and another to hook up to a stereo.

*Optical out is nice, but not required

*Under $200 U.S.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, or advice. Thanks in advance.

I would think any of the SoundBlaster Live cars would fit the bill (they have front and rear outputs).

SB Live specs

Pricewatch shows the Value version of the card listed as low as $39 + shipping.

Any of the SB Lives should work fine, just a matter of budget and which bundle of software/extras you prefer. I think some of them come with a front face plate, too so you can jack stuff in the front, but I don't know which models. They should all be supported under Win2k. Older Sound Blasters might not have Win2k drivers and most of the older ones probably won't have front and rear out (maybe the 128 PCI does, but my SB AWE64 Gold has only line/mic/L&R Gold RCA plugs(spk. out)/joystick port).

Go to 3dss.com . They just did a nice, comprehensive review of the Philips card. Firingsquad.com also did a pretty good one, and there's yet another at soundcardcentral.com

RupTheKid:

The AOpen AW744 Pro soundcard is an AWESOME sound card and will cost you about $30 shipped. The thing I love about it most is the optical out. There is a setting to have it send all sound to the optical out, which I have going to my Denon receiver. Nothing has beaten this in sound quality that I have tested, including the SB Live! series cards (up to and including the Platinum 5.1).
