Help with file system

Hi,

I'll try to explain what happened. I had transfered some files onto one of my hard drives via usb, then I attached it to my system via one of my SATA ports. Everything was fine. Then I had plugged another drive to one of my SATA ports to create a RAID1 array. However, Intel Matrix Storage Manager seemed to think that the second (blank) drive was the correct one, and it seem to want to try to rebuild a RAID1 array with nothing on it.

Now, I stopped the whole process and ran CHKDSK. Now, none of the files appear on the single drive, however, when I right-click on the drive in My Computer, it says that it is nearly full (which is what it should be). I just can't see any files in it.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks a lot.

Did you make sure both drives are running the same file system, and are of equal size(They don't have to be the same size per say, but the RAID'd partitions do)?

I'm no longer interested in setting up a RAID. I just want to get my files back. Does anyone know of a utility that would help me out?

What file system is the partition that you want to retrieve data from? Make sure it's something your operating system can read.

Are you connecting the drive via USB or still on SATA cable? If you haven't tried the other connection type, try it. Also try connecting the drive to a different computer altogether (laptop, whatever) by USB and see if the data is accessible.

I've disconnected it from my SATA controller and plugged the drive in via USB. I know that data is still on the drive, but it shows up blank. So I downloaded a software (can't remember the name at the moment... it's at home and I'm at work) and it does a scan of the drive's sectors. It seemed to have found most of the files (if not all), but it costs $69 to buy the software to recover the files. It is still scanning as I am posting, and as soon as it is finished, I will attempt a recovery.
