...and I accidentally clicked yes. Now, I can't make them unprivate.

I'm trying to access them from my other computer and this is why I cannot.

When I go to the Sharing tab, I can't undo it there either:

Here is the pic.

XP Home or Pro?

XP Home. No Solution - I don't know this version, I got rid of it to get the advanced networking functionality.
XP Pro. Right click on folder, go to properties and security tab. Add everyone to this list.

Check to see if there is a reference to "Owner" in \\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents.

Depends which version of the operating system was installed. OEM versions are not supported directly by Microsoft (in other words, you would contact your OEM for support), while retail versions do include Microsoft support.

Would think the following solution a bit better approach. More a "brute force" method.

Create a new directory. Copy the contents of the original "Owner" directory to the newly created directory. Delete the original "Owner" directory, and delete any references to "Owner" on any other machines on the network (under "My Network Places", any mapped network drives, etc). Set the properties on the "Sharing" tab correctly on the new directory. Access the new (now shared) directory from another machine on the network. If shared correctly, then rename the newly created directory "Owner".

Should then have the proper settings, and yet still retain the originally desired name. Should be accessible from the other machine now with the new name ("Owner") as well.

Hopefully, you are using the copy command rather than a cut and paste, yes?

Is this folder "Owner" associated with a user account named "Owner" perchance?

Sharing the entire user directory is not particularly wise. There are certainly directories within the user directory worth sharing ("My Documents", perhaps "Favorites", etc), but not the entire directory itself, as a whole.

Perhaps would bode well to find out what you are trying to accomplish as an end result before offering further advice. That is, what are you attempting to do by sharing this entire directory?

Just so I have full access from my laptop. Right now, I'm just trying to get to the desktop folder located in the Owner file.

I wouldn't use the desktop for storage of files, but that is just my own personal preference. In any event, as mentioned prior, you could share the individual directories (in this case, "Desktop" under the directory "Owner") rather than the entire user directory itself.

I've tried that, but the problem is passing the Owner file. I can't access anything within it if the Owner file is set to private.

For sake of example, I just remoted to an Xp box, implemented a new user account, and set the conditions equal to what you described.

Uncheck "Share this folder on the network". That should allow access to the "Make this folder private" option that is currently grayed out.

In the future however, do not share the entire user account directory.
