My cpu fan was messy so I took it out and cleaned it... but when I looked at the bottom, there was some stuff stuck to it (adhesive?)... now I don't know how to put it back properly... can I just screw it back on or do I need that adhesive/thermalpaste/whatever it was...?

that wasn't adhesive. it was thermal paste as mentioned and is very important for you CPU's cooling, it can mean the difference between 10* +or-. Try to get some Arctic silver 5 and do a google search on how to apply it properly. your going to need to put a small dime sized ammount on middle of CPU and rub in a circle motion over CPU with a baggy or rubber gloves over your finger. make sure before applying it both surfaces heat sink and CPU are wiped clean use iso alchohol to get all off before applying new thermal paste. email me if you have any questions
