Help with extremely slow networking on Windows XP!!!

I origninally had two computers networked through a router. Both were running 98SE, and everything was fine. I installed XP Pro on one of the computers, and now accessing the other computer through the XP machine takes forever. If I go to "my network places", it takes sometimes 2-3 mins. after I click on the icon for the other computer before I can access its files. The 98SE still accesses the XP computer at normal speed, and the cable internet on the XP machine is fast. The only thing that is slow is accessing the 98SE computers files. Can someone please help me?

WinXP checks for any Scheduled tasks when connecting to computers which can slow down connections.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace
in the Registry. Below that, there should be a key called {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}. Just delete this, and after a restart, Windows will no longer check for scheduled tasks.

Also, there's a faster way than using "My Network Places". Start>Run> \\computername
You can also map the share.
